AdSense, Lead Generation, and Affiliate Marketing are the Three Best Ways To Make Money Online
Three ways to start making money online without fees
Since HubPages attracts so many people that are trying to figure out how to make money online, I thought I'd put together the basics. This is only intended to be a starting point for each of the ideas. To actually make them work, it will require more learning and individual experimentation.
Sharing Information and AdSense
The Product
The product is written articles that get traffic from search engines. In order to be successful, the content you produce should be on evergreen topics that people search for on Google or other major search engines. The key to success here is high quality information. Like making anything that is great, it takes a lot of work to create a high quality piece of content that is worthy of ranking high in google for competitive search terms.
How You Make Money
You make money from AdSense. AdSense places ads that match the content of your writing. Advertisers like placing ads through AdSense since they are so highly targeted. Users will click on the ads if they are interested in them. The amount of money you can make depends on the topic. Commercial topics tend to pay more and within commercial topics, categories like finance are among the top earning. I suggest worrying less about the category and focus on areas that you can create the best piece of content on in the world.
Challenges
When you are just starting out with articles and AdSense it takes time to gain traffic. Then, it's usually between .5% and 4% of people that will click on ads. So, earnings can be very small at the beginning. Secondly, you never know how much traffic a piece of content will get. Rarely do we see someone make a hit with their first hub. Instead, they will make a few hubs that get zero traffic and then they will make one that does well. After they have one good producing hub, they are able to see the pattern and create more, but this takes time. I say it usually takes 30 Hubs before they get a reasonable amount of traffic if they have created high quality content and focused on niche search phrases. This upfront time investment can be daunting when you don't see results. Getting through this dark period is the major challenge.
Why I like it
I don't just like this model, I love it. I love it so much I helped create HubPages. Here's why. First, there are no fees when starting. It just takes time. And if you like learning it's a double bonus, because you will learn a lot about how the internet works. My second favorite part is once you figure out how to create content that gets traffic and monetizes well that each piece of content you create is like putting money in the bank. Every month it will earn money and as long as the information is current, it will continue to produce. Third, I love that you don't have to deal with inventory (no products to order and ship, no returns, no bad debt) and you have total flexibility when you work. Want to work in a cafe, great. Want to work from home fine. It's up to you. Lastly, you don't have to sell your friends, or push a product that you don't believe in. You can write about things you love. Things you are passionate about. And. Things that help people. It's up to you to be successful. If you create quality content over time, you will earn money.
Afflliate Marketing and Lead Generation
The Product
The product can be a website, an email newsletter, or even a blog that promotes a product for a commission or collects information to generate a lead. Examples could be promoting a clickbank offer, selling an item on eBay (to earn a commission), or hosting a loan capture form.
How You Make Money
You make money based on an action. For example, if you use an affiliate link to promote an eBay product and someone purchases the product, then you will earn a commission. The commission is dependent upon how much money the item sold costs. It's pretty common for more expensive items to pay higher commissions. Lead generation is similar, accept in this case the action is getting someone to submit their personal information. For example, you can become a Leadpoint affiliate and get people to submit their information to refinance their house. Every-time someone fills out the form (with accurate information) you earn a commission for the lead. Mortgage leads can be well over $100 per lead, so it can be quite lucrative if you can generate the leads.
Challenges
Affiliate marketing and lead generation is very hard work. Most of the attractive categories like new car leads, and mortgages are filled with very experienced marketers that makes it hard to compete with them. The trick is to acquire the traffic at a rate that costs less than the commissions earned. Since you only get paid for an action, as apposed to AdSense (paid per click) it can take much more traffic to earn anything. Although, it's likely that the lump affiliate commission is worth several AdSense clicks. The other challenge is that many affiliate offers prey on other people. It's hard for me to get too excited about someone pushing an eBook that is garbage or tricking someone to fill out a form.
Why I like it
When done tastefully, affiliate and lead generation can be an excellent way to monetize traffic at premium rates. This happens when good quality traffic is matched to an offer or to a lead form. When everything is on the up and up, the person making the purchase or filling out the form is satisfied and the publisher can make a nice commission for brokering the deal.
Ecommerce: Selling Goods Online
The Product
This can be anything you can sell and deliver. The big difference here is that you have to deliver the good. There are types of products that I think are better for selling online. First, if you can resell high margin products that are small and easy to ship like expensive watches, jewelry or fashion items. Second is something you make. This could be holiday candy, knitted hats, or a product that you figure out how to manufacture. The key is to sell products with significant margins and a market available that can move them.
How You Make Money
You make money when a product is sold. The amount of money you make is dependent upon many variables that are common to running a store, but hopefully the listing fees are less than a store's rent.
Challenges
Retailing is challenging. It can be extremely difficult to become a wholesaleor of brandname products online. If you do get the product, then you have to pay for the inventory. When you take on inventory, you take on risk if you can actually sell the products. Some manufacturers will give you credit, but you still have to sell the products. Then. You have to deal with returns, customers and in many cases stiff competition on price. Internet shoppers love to find the lowest price. But, the lowest price can eat away all the profits for a small seller.
Why I like it
I believe that there is huge opportunity for small retailers online and it's perhaps the easiest way to make money online. You can simply go into your house. Find five items that are worth over $25 and list them for free on Craigslist. I bet that you will sell at least one of those items in a few days. When you sell things, Craigslist is a great way to be part of a marketplace for free. There is no other marketplace in the world that has high quaility buyers and costs nothing to put up your goods for sale. Craigslist is great for many types of items, but not all. However, eBay, Amazon and having your own online store fill the gaps, although they cost more to list. For people that can get access to high margin products, or make their own goods with great margins, then selling online could be just the ticket for you.

Nice hub Paul I find although I get most of my money with Adsense its actually the hardest to do well with. In the hubpage format I generally only get a 2-3% click thru: the articles are just to well written! On my own sites I can get up to 10% but its a completely different format. The other issue I have will Adsense here is that I am almost certain that I am smartpriced because of the low click thru rate so at some stage Iwill have to pull my ID off hubpages to unprice it. I think affiliates: especially the ones that pay recurring fees are the way to go - but they are a lot harder work!
Thank you for the information.
great hub, really informative. i really liked it that you put the challenges and your likes as well. it gives me another viewpoint. though i have to admit that i'm not good at any hehe thanks for sharing.
Paul,
Thank you for the excellent information. The web can be a daunting challenge for the new marketer. Your enthusiam and positive approach are encouraging me to go for it!
Respectfully,
Nicholas Chase
The adsense way of earning money is the easiest, as writing articles I am slowly trying to get used to writing something useful that will last in the evergreen sense, but there are lots of things to do such as editing and marketing, so a lot of planning has to be done often for our time to be managed effectively.
nice hub!
Very nice Hub. Thanks somuch for all the great infomation!
Very informative hub! Thank you!
Would you please comment on Amazon specifically?
Thanks. Great hub.
Amazon is a high quality affiliate partner that we fill good about having authors on HubPages promote because they are reputable and generally treat customers well.
From an affiliate propspective, Amazon tends to pay at the lower end and it can take sending a significant number of clicks to Amazon to earn any income since you only earn if someone buys something. For example, if 1% of people buy something that click on your affiliate offer to amazon, you need to send 100 people to amazon to make one sale. For many people, they'll never send 100 people to amazon. However, with pay per click ads, a small publisher may send 50 clicks earning 10 cents a click. They'll earn $5, but may or may not lead to any sales. When we back out the affiliate commissions to the number of clicks, we typically see Amazon paying about 5 - 10 cents per click. This is less than eBay and Google AdSense on average.
So the short of it is, Amazon is a high quality partner, but other high quality partners tend to pay more to publishers.
Hi Paul, you had done nice work. Its very interesting and nice. I impresses about your hub. Really its wonderful.
There is a lot to learn and it does take a lot of energy and time but one of the keys to success here is to keep writing and keep learning. I have been watching my progress for one year and can see things building. Great info if it is followed. Thanks. C.S.
I have always been sceptical about making money online, especially with the super competitive market. Hopefully i can set up a nice little money maker in the next couple of years.
Paul,
It’s nice to have a responsible, honest resource such as yourself available to provide this valuable information for free. In my rush to achieve instant online success I’ve spent not too much but more than should have for info I could've gotten for free. I’ve become much more realistic in terms of my expectations since reading your hubpages. Keep keeping it real!
It's been around month and a half since I began my blog, and I was wondering what's the average traffic to a blog is usually after a month or two, or even 6 if they do take their time and try out different marketing techniques.
Blog traffic is usually a function of how much you post. Sort of like a self fullfilling prophecy. More posts, more often equals more traffic. As long as you work to make quality posts, then traffic will grow.
Technorati posts statistics from time to time on how often bloggers post
http://technorati.com/blogging/state-of-the-blogos
The top bloggers post over 300 times per month. I think if you want to be super successful on HupPages, three great quality Hubs a week over 1 year and you'll be doing very well.
excellent hub, keep up the good work
AdSense is the better bet because its less risky.
Even if the amount per click is small you go on a safe side.Once a click is received its money . But in affiliate programs you get paid only when the user buys anything. Its got risks > If you send users who doesn't perform needed action , then no money.
This is useful,thanks.
Options such as drop-shipping can make retailing online a lot easier. There's no inventory to purchase or store, and you're not responsible for filliang/shipping the orders. Drop-shipping should definitely be something you look into if you're interested in selling name brand products online!
Of the 3 options you mentioned, I would not encourage beginners to put much time or effort into Adsense. The program itself has a lot of flaws, and as you mentioned you need a fairly large & steady amount of traffic to build substantial revenue. Even with the traffic, the types & placements of ads play a big role in how well you're able to monetize your content. As a viewer/reader, I personally hate seeing ads all over the place. They can be very distracting and often irrelevant.
Great hub, and a great starting point for newbies to the world of earning online. Remember to do your research and you can't go wrong!
good hub, thanks! :)
I have made a lot of money from AdSense and i have been going down the affiliate marketing road for a almost a year now and although i dont earn as much as AdSense as regular, its still nice to get a 3 figure bonus here n there when people do hand over there credit card details!:)
Thanks I will try this out.
Skip the Adsense, go for the other 2 - -A-OK :)
A clear summary, and a good reminder that it can take time and effort before any income appears! So far, we do best with AdSense and have seen next to nothing from Amazon.
WoW! This is great article, very informative. Thanks Paul.
iBuildbranding: I agree with you about the dropshipping the key though for beginners getting into it, is not to order before you have been paid by your customer.
Thanks for the Hub! I am new to hubpages and appreciate the encouragement.
Very good hub.
Paul,
Nice hub! Where would I go to get people to sign up as my affiliate? I teach people how to stop smoking and I am willing to pay $100 for each smoker that goes through my class.
Thanks,
Lela
I can teach anyhere in the world because it is on a teleconference.
This is great stuff!
Great Hub Paul, if you get it right Affiliate Marketing is definitely the way to go, your Adsense click will give you 30 -> 60 cents if your lucky and I would guess most Adsense sites (especially beginners sites) would be lucky to generate a dollar a day. But just one affiliate sale and you could earn $30 -> $500 if you promote the right product, not to mention recurring sales on some items and building a list.
Thanks for sharing. Good stuff!
This is very good info. Keep up your good work. Also if anyone is interested check out my first hub http://hubpages.com/hub/how-to-get-visitors-email-
Thanks man this is really good information to know!I didn't know about 2 of these methods, i'll be sure to try out some of these ways to make money online.
thanks again.
You put a lot of time and effort into this Hub. I really feel it is very informative and that there are a lot of people out there that are searching for this type of information. No wonder you get such High Hub Scores ...... LOL
Way to go, Laurie (Inspire Wisdom)
Nice hub and a good intro to the topic. The one that always gets me is this one...
"Want to make money online? Teach others how to make money online and charge them to learn!"
Great hub. I have one comment about what you said:
"The top bloggers post over 300 times per month. I think if you want to be super successful on HupPages, three great quality Hubs a week over 1 year and you'll be doing very well."
While I can see people writing a 'hub' three times a week, writing a 'great quality hub' three times a week seems a little daunting. Maybe I suffer from analysis paralysis? :)
I commend this hub for its simplicity and straight forward presentation. The information is more valuable than what you get from expensive ebooks by the internet gurus. Great job. Congrats and Thanks.
Read this review before you launch an online business
Good info. Most have voted for adsense for making money online because this is the easiest way to earn but other ways though they require more effort and preparation in the first place can be more attractive in the long run.
Good hub. Do keep on giving more such info.
Thanks for that information. I liked AdSense but now find that Amazon is a great affiliate program. Just make an a-store, write blog reviews with links to the store and presto!
:) Thank you for the add :)
If somebody wants to make money woth Adsense, I reccommend you don't rely on just one site. Make as many sites as you can, for different niches. If you have 100 sites that produce $10/day each......
Really, really good hub Paul. Very informative and helps out a lot.
I'm going to try a little bit of all three, plus running a service business. Since it's all online, everything I learn in one area applies to all the other ones. Thanks for the info!
There are so, so many ways to make money online. Of course, they mainly fall into the three categories outlined in this hub (which is excellent, by the way).
For example, in the realm of affiliate marketing, there are literally thousands and thousands of different programs you can promote, in just about any niche you can think of.
There is a boatload of money to be made online. It is incredibly hard, though - Don't let anybody tell you otherwise.
with ecommerce you can make the most money but is the hardest way
affiliate sales - you can make good money but you will have to put a little work at the begining
google ads are the easiest way but your earnings are the lowest
Adsense is a passive way of making money unlike selling where there are billions of peope doing the same thing.
Hi Paul, thanks for the definition of Evergreen and you are correct, if you are going to make money with Adsense, your article needs to be found on Google or any other major search engines, with people searching for your keywords. The big money is made on the search engines with exposure to billions searching on these engines.
However, money can be made on social networks and bookmarks, if people are really interested in you, your topic, products or evergreen-rich content.
E. Clemons
Nice Job.
Hi Paul!
You've been very helpful for someone like me who's here for two weeks and just starting to understand on how things work and how I get paid. It's my first time to write on line. Thank you. and God bless...
thats was awesome! great advice
There are so many ways to make money online. However you have to focus on learning the business first. Then the money will come. Do not go for the overnight or you can be earning $20,000 a month n just 30 days.. Don't do it. You can learn so many thing for free. Then you can start making investments with what you have learned..
Peace, Love, Health Happiness and Massive Success... JosephDiego
Nice hub. Adsense is my Favorite one.
Good hub. But i think adsense is the best to make money online.
wow...nice POV...actually you've made a really informative tips there. I could use it to boost up my blog and earn as well... thank you for sharing a particle of your thoughts here...
This is a good, quick guide for the absolute beginner in online marketing. As to the best way to make money online... I'll let you know when I've made some!
I really appreciate your comments it was very useful and it help me to get a grasp on things. I still haven't figured out how to add weblinks to my site and I havent figured out how set up my blogs. I will learn soon im pretty sure once again thanks.
Wow, this is really fantastic information... I especially like the way you explain things in a way that it can easily be understood and followed by newbies.
Very good hub, full of great info.
Thanks Paul
Very nice hub. I think more interesting is the fact that so many people who use hubpages were not aware of these three basic methods of making money online. See all those ads around your hubs? that is adsense and affiliate marketing. So when you publish a hub you are doing some adsense. Only catch here is that you share it with Hubpages because you are posting on their property.
Excellent hub and what a great discussion.
Great hub, Paul. I think Adsense is the easiest way to make money
CafePress is THE online place to become your very own entrepreneur quickly and easily. All you need is a computer, Internet connection, and a graphics program, and you are on your way to making major money!
I have earning lots
very nice hub. Great content and information. Keep up the good work.
Cheers,Chris
I have made money (slowly) for many years with AdSense but was shocked at how fast I made money with an independent Seafood Affilliate program. One effortless sale equals Many days of AdSense in come!
Learned something new. Thanks!
Yes Paul you're right, there definitely are some shady affiliate programs around and affiliates must be careful of their affiliation with them. Afterall, the affiliate marketer is the one on the front line pushing the product with their credibility at stake. Choose wisely!
Very Informative Hub you got there Paul! I never thought of this before. Very Helpful. Thanks!
PAY PER CLICK PROGRAMMES ARE USELESS IN MY SENSE .. I LOST MY TIME IN THAT PROGRAMME AND GOOGLE ADSENSE ALSO .... DESCRIBE SOME THING NEW ANY WAY GREAT HUB KEEP IT UP
Nice hub Paul
Wow - This is a great hub of info. Lots of options.
Thanks!
Great article and detailed..I thing all methods are great and effective and real, I voted for E-commerce because i still have to try E-commerce.
I put a link to this Hub on my Blog, Washington Son
washingtonson.blogspot.com
Thank You for the great Hub!
Wow, a lot of great information. Good job! Thank you.
I am in the middle of writing an article on affiliate programs to explain to the general public what it is. I work for a company that builds websites for clients who want to make money online. The websites we build have guaranteed affiliate approval. I think it is very important to mention, again, that you can't really sit back and expect the money to come to you. You need traffic. I think many sites advertise make $x pr month on the internet. What they neglect to emphasize is it takes a considerable amount of marketing effort to generate that traffic. Even though my company takes care of website creation and maintenance, the client needs to know how to market the site to make money.
Maybe your next post should be on Internet Marketing :)
Great post!
Nice information
So how did you put up a poll? Great idea.
thanks for the information, i've been trying to make some money too, it's not going too well, anyway if anybody is interested in learning Spanish please visit my hubs, if i get more people to read them i'l post more lessons
Great overview of 3 ways to build an online business and make some money doing it! Thanks.
NICE INFORMATION.
I DO NOT STILL KNOW IF THERE IS ANY SURE WAY TO EARN MONEY IN THE INTERNET. I HAVE BEEN TOILING STILL AND ANY HELP IS A BLISS TO ME.
THANK YOU.
This is a nicely assembled hub - gives people a great overview. I make money online through a variety of methods: writing, adsense and other pay per click programs, and affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is the most lucrative, however.
Put together great, My focus is learning first then the money will come...
I didn't see this(Comments are not for promoting your hubs or other sites) Sorry never again!
FANTASTIC Hub! I agree, making money with adsense is a great way to add some extra income to whatever other method you use to make money on the internet. I personally make money with adsense and affiliate marketing. But I do agree, I can't with a clearn conscious promote affiliate products that I feel are garbage. Pick your affiliate products carefully!
Thanks for the great information.
Great Hub! I am learning about affiliate marketing through these sites. I've written a few articles and really love the 'web of connections' through these social media sites. I have read so many great articles lately that have been helpful and quite inspiring. Lots of ideas of things to write about.
Thank you for this very informative and well written article!
I do do some adsense but have backed off over the last couple of years to look more at affiliate marketing. I still make at least as much as I did a couple of years ago with my adsense because I have increased pageviews so very much.
Affiliate marketing to me is the best way in which to make money as you do not have to build up any stock and being in the middle of tyhe transaction means that you are the salesperson not the store, not the shipper, and not the pr company. Your sole job is to put the product in front of potential customers
Hi Paul,
I found this hub very useful, and encouraging. I've got 25 hubs up now, and earned about 1.60 in October. So I guess I'm that dark phase you talked about -- the flat part of the learning curve, where results are not proportionate to effort. But you encourage me that, with continued effort, I'll make across the flat part of the curve to the steep part, where results come disproptionately to effort. I'm looking forward to it. Again, thanks!
Great info. Thanks!
Very nice hub :) thanks for the information.
very informative. Thanks for the information.
My first post to a hub page and it appears I really picked a good one. Hope I can do as well on my endeavors.
"WOW THANK'S For The Information I see you love helping people finding there way to work I hope I do good To Here. Great Hub!
Good hub! I'd like to add that the only reservation I have with most affiliate marketing systems is the short-term nature of the referral. That's one reason why I would suggest having a network marketing component in your online business strategy. That way you can capitalse on good marketing with long-term customer service relationships.
Hello, Paul. Yes, like everyone else here, I agree that your post is excellent because it combines facts with personal experience. I am an absolute novice and am not trying to find the Holy Grail for making money. I am using Hubbers as a means to write interesting articles on a variety of topics, either for my own pleasure or to answer the questions of other hubbers. However, it makes sense to try and incorporate an affiliate marketing string to this particular bow. Thank you for your wise words, Paul.
Very nice hub.The information shared is so useful and valuable,if someone use it.there is no chance of failure.I am also using AdSense to make money online, and happy to say,I am making some decent money from AdSense.Thank you ones again for such a beautiful hub.
Helps t have a down to earth overview of what can lead to income on the web. there are so many possibilities it is mind boggling. Thanks
This hub is an excellent resource. Thanks for all the great tips.
Are you making money this way,I find it hard to make money anyway but e commerce.I have been searching everywhere for months, and still have not found a real paying job.If you have any tips, let me know.Thank you
Lets see how do we make money online? Well you can do anything, but just do it well. We all need to add value to the web. Then the people will come.
On the TEAM also. Great direction. I've been in the game a while as well, and I have seen good results from hubpages already. I'm glad to have a format for people who really love doing this. Thanks
Thanks for the great hub. You did not mention writing and selling quality ebooks. I now have 5 friends doing more than $16k a month doing just that.
The all used paid adverising, and some of my friends paid out more than they earned for quite a while.(11 months in one case.
To succeed the rules are the same as any other process. Quality contents that are useful, and lots of free information for your list to feel they are getting better than good value for money
Very Informative--Thanks!
Great info Paul. Thank you.
Nice resources. Thanks for sharing.
I am new to this stuff within the last 2 months. I am glad to hear that people can actually make money at this. My stuff is going really slow. I purchased some adwords to help drive traffic, but it is really slow. Any help is appreciative, like your site. Thank you
http;//winterclothingstore.com
Thank you for the relevant information. I hope to learn more from you.
As a person new to writing hubs and learning about e-commerce, I found your hub very interesting and informative. Thanks! Will look forward to more of your hubs.
Great info, how do you find the time? l
I make TONS more with Amazon than with adsense on my blog currently. They don't pay a huge percentage for commission but people always buy other stuff while they are there and it works out to be a lot of money. I try not to have TOO many adsense things and I don't put them in really prominent places, so that might be why I haven't made too much. Usually about $10 a month.
Hi There Paul - looks like you have written an "evergreen" yourself ! Thanks for this information - I more general in my writing so it looks as if I need to be more specific to earn.... cheers
awesome post! thanks so much for sharing!
lots of great info. thanks Paul!
Hi Paul,
Nice info. I'll try to follow.
Btw, which is your most preferred method out of above three?
Graet page! You have some useful information here! I also feel adsense is a good way to make money, you just have to get the traffic!
Thanks Paul.
Tom
Really good information. I have a question Paul... With all this strategies, how much traffic become real sales?
This is a good hub that covers a lot great points. Although these methods are currently working for people, I am interested to know what is next. Where/what will be the next means of growing revenue on the internet? I think we have seen affiliate marketing, ecommerce and others mature to a point that there will be a new means of doing business - I would be interested to read another hub that covers your thoughts on whats next. great post
Very informative hub. Good information and nicely written. I think in the future, that internet marketing will be the backup to your physical business. It will be the proponent to reach a wider spectrum of people to sell to. Some of the older "quick cash" systems through internet marketing in my opinion are dying out.
Great Hub. The key to all this and any business whether it is offline or online is marketing and driving people to your site. That is the most elusive art form there is online. Visitors will not magically appear to your site- you need to market, market and market!
Good job! Keep it up
impressive!
Excellent work Paul. Really, for me, I find that the affiliate programs work best. It's work, but it pays fairly well. My average right now is about $375.00 per month for each program. I keep up on the latest buzz and change programs almost as often as I eat. The biggest problem most people have is either using cookie cutter sites or they just don't put any work at all into their sites. Thanks for all the information you provide in your Hubs Paul.
Good information; thank you!
Great read. I have tried marketing, selling, ebay, affiliates, adsense, point and click and so on, but never really made any money no matter how much effort I put in. I will keep you tips in mind for my next venture. Thankyou and have a great New Years
I like this hub a lot! It explains very well all about Google's Adsense program, which I am very interested in. Lately, I have been very intrigued with making money online, and I have achieved succes off of mturk.com. I'm new to hubpages.
Great hub ! Thanks for sharing :)
Thank You. Your really show your determination here.
Ecommerce, affiliate marketing, Adsense, that order :)
The important thing everyone needs to remember is that you can make money online but you will doubtfully become a rich. The most you can expect is a little extra pocket money or maybe enough to pay basic bills. There are too many out there competing for the cash to really make it what some hype it to be.
I think that people really can make good money online if they know what to do and target niches that aren't really, really saturated. If you provide some quality service you can make a killing on adsense, ecommerce (which I think is just another type of affiliate marketing), and affiliate marketing - you just have to be able to see what a niche is missing and be able to provide it to internet searchers. If you can do that you can make a lot of money online.
It is all about work and reward. The more you work (and the better you work), the better the reward.
Great information, I learned alot from it. Now I don't feel so discouraged since I am very new here. Big thanks.
Adsense is ok. But do you know that anybody can distroy your adsense approval. it is as much sensitive.
Really useful and informative information. Many thanks, it's helped to unravel some of the jargon for me.
Hi Paul,
You need to check out this link as the guy has not only copied word for word at least two toher people's Hubs including one of my own, but he has also copied this one and published it as being his. The link is:
What can I say with so many before me, perhaps that I am a cynic, maybe I should hub about that.
But with your stats you must do all right so I bow to that. Well done
Thank you so much for the information, that you have post..... I'm new to Hub but not to online business... I'm not a person who like to write,.... I'm go to see what will come of it.... thank!
iT'S GOOD STUFF
Thank you! Very good solid basic information. Great to see people like you online helping other people! Keep up the good work.
thanx for the info Paul, this is a great info for me. Im starting to start my own website soon, have been study how to make money online for years already
thanx again
Ecommerce sites are good, then affiliate marketng then adsense ...plus combos
great information..some things I didn't think of.
Very informative – By including the challenges, people who are new to these ideas will know what to expect in advance. Well done, Paul!
Nice article, but I have never understood adsense. For some it works and for some it just does not work, through you do every thing according to proven methods
This was actually helpful... I love you.
Theres a bunch of good stuff in this site, thanks for the very helpful and informative information!
great stuff! thanks
Great article. Outlines things really well
Nice information. But adsense says that your website or link should be atleast 6 months old. Is this is true. I have to wait so long to start earning. Please reply.
Really good information
I believe there is a step by step procedure on how to make multiple levels of money on the internet, but to this day, I have not found one resource that is comprehensive and yet simple enough to follow step by step. Anyone have any suggestions ... or ... comments?
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful information
I see there is love here, that made u to share this great information. please do create your website and share more of this topic as i have heared much about selling products online or PLR but don't know how to get started. Thanks very much.
Really nice information. and probably I am going to start wrok on lead generation way of earning money.
Wow! My head is spinning. I'm new here, I just set up my first hub yesterday, and can hardly believe all the ways there are to make money.
I think I'm really going to like this site. Thanks for the great info.
Jax
@freelancewriter - you can signup for an adsense account through HubPages. Usually, new people are quickly accepted. Then, adsense will be placed automatically on your hubs, but you can also post adsense ads on other sites you have. No need to wait.
Great, Great Hub. You are telling the right thing at the right time. Because crisis arround the world many people like me have no job. I started googleing round 2006 and it was dificult to understand how to earn money without money because there was little information about "How To Have a Life Online". So I google it many times until a friend of mine told me: Focus, Action, Money. Yes, it seems very easy but it´s not. You think when working from home every hour is happy hour to do nothing. The most important thing I learned: try and fail. When you start to fail it´s a sine! Yes you did something "action". No problem to fail, it´s human. The time when you will win is after you fail a lot of times.
So, try and fail but do it. Do not wait for the magic. The magic is you.

Great information on some basic things to remember when writing here at HubPages- and reminding us to keep looking out for topics that can endure, and that continue to build up traffic as time goes on.
Thanks!
Nicely done, Paul. Thanks to the internet, people that just love to write and rant can now make money with that. But of course it takes much more than just knowing how to write. Thankfully learning the ropes that will put it all together isn't so difficult. One doesn't have to go to college to learn how to make money online. Thanks for sharing this.
but i think adsense is a sure n trusted way to earn if seriously take it as business
Thanks for the information. I didn't notice that lowermybill is good.
Thanks for the great information Paul, as you said, there are many great ways to make good money online. The main keys to making an income online are passion, focus, mindset and motivation...if you have these qualities, coupled up with a few good strategies, you will be a winner.
Excellent article. Hubs like this can really be a free replacement for much of advice and how-to product being sold on the Internet that are not worth the money.
Great calssification of the online businesses!
I have just started experimenting with video as I think this is a very effective way to share information about your own products and affiliate products. Personally I favour a combination of affiliate and ecommerce.
very nice and good info. all the best keep posting, such a quality hub.
I'm new at this- thanks for the great info!
Great information and thanks for the heads up on so many points..
Really nice post and good sharing. Thank you!
Some really interesting info here. I've been tossing around an idea in my head for several months now - combining Craig'sList with SMC. I'm good at writing ads that get results and I've sold quite a few things locally via Craig's List. I'm just not sure if SMC has the kind of products that would sell, and it's near impossible to get a look at their inventory without first joining.
I've heard (from a hubber who seems to have experienced it first-hand) to "Run, not walk, away from SMC!" But, I still wonder: Was it just that individual's experience? Would I be able to do better? Maybe he didn't try what I'm thinking of trying... you know?
great hub , very cool and informative....helo ppl um a new cumer so plz assist.
thank you'
Great Article Paul! The information you shared was well put together, we can sense your experience : )
Looking forward for more!
M
Very nice hub my friend!
Good information here
hey good info but i cant search my hubpages in search tab y so it is????
I have started several sites that have content on them with the hope that I can attract enough traffic over time. Sounds like it takes time. Thanks for the information
Hi, interesting ideas on how to make money, there are so many different ways to make money, the trouble is finding what works for you.
Keep writing!
Great information, thanks for sharing
Fantastic article! There's a lot of great advice in this!
Thanks for the overview. I like your point that if you enjoy learning new things, that makes content creation all the better choice.
The other problem with developing a lot of content on hubpages is you do not own it. If Hubpages changes and starts letting more spam on or gets slapped by Google for some reason you do not have control of your work.
Rick
Great points - thanks for the info.
@Rick - You do own the content on HubPages and have control over it.
Some other sites have had trouble getting banned by Google, but not us. We take spam very seriously and it is clearly in the best interest of everyone to keep the quality of content on HubPages up.
I can't imagine people doing 300 blog posts per month. I've been doing about 100 a month and I thought that was a lot. I think it would be easier for me to write 3 hubs a week than 300 blog posts. And even though I blog daily, I still make about 90% more with my Hubs than with my Blogs on Google Adsense. You didn't mention Kontera in your article, but from the day I added Kontera, I've fairly consistantly made $1.00 a day with it, and it took me years to get to that point with Adsense.
great hub thanks for the advice, I am a new member and I am having a great time posting about fitness. It would be nice to make a little cash on the side tho thanks!
Advertisers like placing ads through AdSense since they are so highly targeted. Users will click on the ads if they are interested in them. The amount of money you can make depends on the topic. Commercial topics tend to pay more and within commercial topics, categories like finance are among the top earning. I suggest worrying less about the category and focus on areas that you can create the best piece of content on in the world.
excellent hub....helped me a lot
Great hub. The best thing about making money online is that you don't have to write on topics that you don't want to.
The reason why most people don't make anything online is because they are trying to make their own blog and their own website. In today's world, you have to learn how to share and to give. You can't expect to make thousands of dollars off just one article. It's all about you working with your family and friends on one particular website or blog. To make good money, you have to have your friends and family submit at least one article a day to you daily and tell them that you will give them some cash once you start to make cash. It's about trust and loyalty to one another. There are to many websites out there today trying to be run by a one man show and that doesn't get you anywhere anymore. You have to think big. Big websites do well online becuase they have loads of quality content and loads of readers. That's what you need to succeed online.
Excellent advice. You are a very good teacher. Is there somewhere that one can access more of your online teaching?
Brilliant work. Thank you for all the information.
Nice! Thanks!
Thanks for that information. I liked AdSense but now find that Amazon is a great affiliate program. Just make an a-store, write blog reviews with links to the store and presto!
Google adsense is really works program to earn money online. I have try it and earn money from it. The key is keyword and how to get traffic for it on search engine.
great list
I have not invested in adsense or adwords yet. Is it better to have organic links or should I just jump in and go for adwords?
For an online business or any online ventures to work, you must have a detailed plan and a clear vision in your mind. You just don't chase everything coming out that looks like it'll make you money. When you have a clear vision of what you want your business to become, you will be more focused to your business that makes success possible.
There are SO many ways you can make money and build a business on the internet and they are all very different disciplines. If you're just getting into this stuff, you're going to be coming across a whole lot of these methods and all of them will be telling you they're the best... There's eBay, Pay Per Click Marketing, Affiliate Marketing, Writing Content, Surveys, Niche Marketing, Blogging, Article Marketing, Adsense, List Building, Product Creation, JV Partnerships, Ebooks and so many more.
Lots of great info...thanks, was very informative
great article. very helpfull and informative.
This is really a terrific article! If only I had had this succinct but comprehensive overview available four years ago when I first started my autodidactic quest to learn all I could learn about online marketing and legitimate ways to make money online, I would have saved so very much time and wasted effort!
The only addition I would make is that when a person wishes to sell actual physical products online, if s/he is selling on eBay, yes, one must endure all of the sweat of packaging the products, carting them to the post office (or having them sent via a service like DHL or FedEx), and sending them. Additionally, s/he must also bear the cost of both shipping and purchasing (and sometimes storing) the inventory. However, if one wishes to avoid all of that physical work, there is a much easier alternative, and often it is even a more lucrative one.
Subcribing to a dropshipping service allows a person to sell physical products (as opposed to downloadable information products on eBay, ClickBank, and the like) without all of that hassle. If you are interested in this option, IT IS CRITICAL THAT YOU NOTE THE WARNING AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST! If the seller uses a dropshipper, all s/he must do is to be the brokering agent between the buyer and the dropshipper; thus, the seller simply sends the buyer to the dropshipper, usually via a link on a Web site (although there are some other clever methods to accomplish this task), and the dropshipper bears the burden of packaging and sending the products in addition to paying for (and, occasionally, manufacturing) the products. The seller then can concentrate on the business of simply selling--convincing the buyer to purchase the product(s). Furthermore, the seller can start doing business with almost no start-up money because the vast majority of the costs of doing business are absorbed by the dropshipper. Yes, it is usually best if the seller has his/her own Web site, but today the costs of purchasing a site, having one built, using a service to build one (extremely easily such that a person with NO technical skills can easily follow the directions of such a service to build the site), or building one from scratch (if the seller has this skill) are terrifically cheap as is hosting a Web site and the few small costs of owning a site. Having just joined this site immediately before writing this response, I have no idea what the site rules are regarding issues such as "naming names" of products and the like, so I will not provide names of actual products here, but I will be happy to do so later if it is allowed on this site or privately if that is possible and acceptable.
WITH REGARD TO THE ABOVE WARNING: The majority of dropshipping services are terrible scams that exist solely to rip people off in a really big way and that have developed the most incredibly devious ways to do so! Please be exceptionally careful when choosing a dropshipping service with which to do business. Read a fair amount of reliable information only about how to choose a dropshipper. That said, there are several extremely reliable, honest dropshippers that have been in business for quite some time. I myself can name at least half a dozen, but, again, I don't know if that is acceptable on this site. I would be happy to list these if there is a way that is acceptable on this site, but I do not yet know how to go about this. If you would like such information, please reply as to how I may give you such information.
Thanks for the info, Paul! I just joined hubpages 4 days ago, and I think I am off to a great start, and it is encouraging to read articles such as yours that put things into perspective as to what will produce the best results. Thanks again!
Thanks a lot man.... really helps out for us beginners.... Great hub.
Paul Edmondson,
I think it's wonderful that so many people are earning extra income on this site, if they can, considering our economy but....
Do you think it's fair that a Hubber can post their opinions as fact and confuse their readers? When people get on their computers to search something important, and are led to these HubPages, they are not always aware that they have reached a site written by people voicing their "opinions" to earn money. Unless the reader looks into it as I have or the Hubber is honest on all their pages by stating that their info is "opinion" not fact, a person will never know. How come Hubbers are not monitored for this? It's scary because the motive behind creating HubPages is to earn money, therefore, making it very easy for the Hubber to say what they want to generate the traffic they need to make their pages successful.
To prove my point, go on over to one of your top Hub Authors' pages, Susan Peters. She has chosen a very hot topic to earn money; "Pet Food Recall" and hundreds of other pages concerning pet food. You will read numerous posts from people telling her she is confusing them with her contradictory ratings. When people ask her what her credentials are she completely ignores them. What upsets me the most is that these poor innocent pet owners who have either lost their pets due to the poisoning or have sick pets on medication for life are hanging on to Susan Peters every word. People are desperately searching for a safe pet food even after the initial recall. They think she is a veterinarian or pet food nutritionist but, she is neither, Susan Peters is a pet groomer. Would you take advice from your hairdresser on brain surgery? Please look at her readers postings to understand my anger. I have also read her court case on line, trying to sue a pet food company, and even the judge in that case states that Susan Peters lacks credibility due to the inconsistencies in her written complaints. I wish that judge would read her HubPages! It's amazing what some people do for money.
Well, you will most likely tell me that it is impossible to monitor Hubbers because there are too many or that it is not your job or whatever reason you can think of. All I want to say is it's completely unfair to be led to a site when searching for real, genuine information only to be fooled by a Hub Author's opinions (in my case, a pet nutritionist wanna-be). Susan Peters topic is a very serious subject that involves the sickness and death of our beloved pets. No one on this site should be allowed to pretend they're someone they're not in order to make money, we all know that's fraud... and with no monitoring and no need to prove credentials on any topic a hubber is writing about, this site has the potential of becoming the biggest train wreck on the internet. Trust me when I say I am not the only person who is irate over this and I'm sure more angry people will be speaking up, too.
In all sincerity, Mr. Edmondson, you helped create this site, so please do something about monitoring your Hub Authors. I believe by having an automatic disclaimer embedded onto every single hub page that is created, stating something like: "Please be aware that the topic on this page consists of the views and opinions of the Hub Author and not that of a professional unless otherwise noted". At least readers wouldn't have to go through what I went through.... searching Susan Peters advice for three days until a red flag went up causing me to research this site and who Peters really is. Save us this aggravation, please! And with all the technology out there, please don't tell me it's impossible to put a disclaimer on newly created or existing hug pages because I won't believe you.
I wish the best to all the new Hubbers out there and I only hope everyone stays honest.
Paul,
I'm well aware that you and Susan Peters have blocked my posts from your pages. I've been using other websites to warn people that Susan Peters of HubPages is not a qualified pet nutritionist or veterinarian but, a pet groomer. Putting your vested interest in HubPages aside, can you blame me? You don't seem to realize or care how important this is for people seeking real advice on safe pet foods. Are you a pet owner? If not, do you know someone personally, that you care about, who loves their pets? I understand posts like mine can have a bad effect on a Hubber, maybe even effect you because you created HubPages but, I'm not out to harm anyone. My only concern is for the people who are putting their trust in Susan Peters while, for two long years, she continues to confuse them. It's more important to me to warn people that she's not qualified on this topic than to worry about Susan Peters' HubPage status. If someone close to you, a friend or family member, was a geniune pet lover seeking information on safe pet foods voiced their concern to you about Susan Peters, would you ignore them? I know I'm just a complete stranger to you so it's easy to ignore my concerns and block me from posting to the public. That's fine but, in the mean time, could you please contact Susan Peters about this so she can start admitting to her readers she's not qualified in evaluating pet food ingredients and that her ratings are only her opinions? How about asking her to stick to a topic she has experience with, like pet grooming? That is, if she really is a pet groomer. Can you not understand my frustrations at all or is your bottom line money, money, money?
I agree that driving enough traffic to one's site in order to get a good conversion rate as an affiliate can be tough work. As you said, "I say it usually takes 30 Hubs before they get a reasonable amount of traffic if they have created high quality content and focused on niche search phrases. This upfront time investment can be daunting when you don't see results."
I was thinking maybe that the time spent finding keyphrases, writing articles using them, and putting up hubpages, could be trimmed down by sending variations of those articles to article directories instead? What is you view on which tends to lead to more traffic over time: article marketing or setting up multiple pages focused on keyphrases?
Very well written and detailed, thank you!
I agree traffic generation is the most difficult task. Quality of content, therefore, must be at the forefront. Quality of content is going to dictate rather directly how many people come to your site repeatedly, let alone, take an interest enough in any ad on your site or page to click-thru. Most people are smart enough to determine whether content is being provided solely for the purpose of obtaining a click-thru.
Thanks paul for writing this hub. As a newbie I don't know how I can generate traffic. YOu said it takes 30 hubs to start generating traffic. I have a long way to go. I like your enthusiasm about hubpages. It encourages me to stick to posting more hubs.
Really great and informative Hub. I can pick some really great tips here that i can surely apply to make money online. Thanks a lot for sharing
Yes, this is great info for beginners. I'd point out that finding small niches and 'owning' them is a very smart way to attack the 'making money online' bug. You can use all of the monetization methods you've mentioned targeted at very narrow, carefully researched nitches, and be successful pretty quickly.
I'd also say its important to start small. Set a small goal, and don't expect much early. It takes time to make money online, and if you see a little progress towards a goal, you are much more likely to keep at it. If you set a big goal right away, you may not make progress towards it for months, which is definitely discouraging.
Having traffic is definitely the key to making money online.
3 ways for earn money :
need
Time , mind , relax ....
Thanks, interesting info! my favourite one is affiliate marketing.
Different Ways To Make Money Online
it Was very well written, I support you, welcome to my hub
This made more sense after I wrote hub number two.
Well worth reading
Very Informative. Thanks very much
Great Hub! Please read my hub on making money online.
Thanks Paul, Your information was excellent, I can see, that you really care about your chosen hub topics.
Thanks for sharing. Wonderful stuff
Wow, very impressive. Thanks for the info.
Simple words pointing to great resources.
Great hub. I like the links to your other hubs too!
Great post. There is a way for everyone. I like the affiliate route because I don't want to actually be in charge of shipping products but I enjoy the internet marketing aspect.
wow! This Hub is full of content! Great work!!!!!!!!
I totally agree with you about monetizing content (I love it). it's no need shipping and inventory but I do have an ecommerce website.
Great Hub thanks
Very informative hub!. I would also add freelancing (like site design, proofreading, etc).
how much is it going to cost me to get started?
So far I have dabbled in all three not seriously and made no money at all. In fact freelancing as a writer has earned me money and I do like being a pen for hire! But I would love to be able to build a passive income stream online.
I think you articulated the issues surrounding making money online quite well! I quite agree that earning money with Adsense takes a great deal of patience. In addition, the more one writes, the greater the chances of moving up in the search engine rankings. So, patience and writing go together in this business.
Thanks!

love the post!
Hey Paul,
Very nice content.Cool Hub.In my opinion the affiliate marketing is the safest easiest route to abundance.
thanks for sharing
Excellent post Paul! I've seen so many newbies coming online wanting to earn some extra cash but always end up falling for the free scams and not wanting to invest the time and cash needed to start earning. This article cuts right to the chase. Choose your method and focus on it.
Use both Adsense and Affiliate to get a great income :)

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD
Thank You for all the helpful info. simple and clear. I can understand. Very nice writing. I am grateful to you. I love to write, the tech skills I could do without, but some are imparitive to grow.
I love Hub Pages. I wrote a hub dedicated to Hub Pages and the wonderful people that put this site together. Hubs has blessed millions I am sure. I would be honored if you would read my, 'Hub Pages is a God Send' hub. Many left wonderful comments as well. You may enjoy hearing how much you are appreciated. A comment to let me know you stopped by would be awesome.
May God continue to Bless You for helping others. This is what life is about. We Bless, we get Blessed. We Give joy, we receive joy.
Hugs to you.

Great article. I also earn money through Ad sense,Amazon,Affiliate Marketing etc.
I've got to say, this was a good hub. Well planned, conversationally written, and best of all, full of all sorts of good information. I'm new here and have written only three hubs at this point, but looking forward to writing more. Is there generally a problem posting things that I've written here and putting them elsewhere on some of these other sites?
Thank you again for the great information! Hope ya have a great day!
You did a lot of work on this subject and presented it very well in your hub. No wonder you're successful!
Agree that affiliate marketing is extremely hard. I have no success so far.
This is a great article for any beginner who wants to learn about making money online.
great! and thanks.
The poll is pretty telling - tells me many hubbers have no ideas about how to MMO.
There is a lot to learn, but its all doable.
Great advice for this aspiring Hubber! I am learning here for sure! I was surprised when I clicked the poll that ecommerce cam out the worst. How weird is that! I had planned on possibly setting up a related ecommerce site, now I am wondering am I mad? Thanks for opening my eyes! : )
Thanks for your tips and encouragement I for one am going through the problem of finding good keywords and topics that draw traffic any help in this area?
thanks for this advice paul.
Consider this both bookmarked and stumbled upon. I'll be rereading this to learn more.
This is some great information that you have posted in this hub! Thank you so much! I am familiar with Google Adsense but not much else.
Thanks for the informative hub. I just joined a couple weeks ago and was wondering my my first few hubs weren't getting many views even though they were well written. Good to know it happens to the best.
Thank you for the great information!!
i give good work remarks to yourideas
Is very useful to me,
Great overview article on how to make money. Can you point us to a step-by-step article on how to use AdSense to best advantage?
May 2010 be a happy, healthy and prosperous year for you and for all of us Hubbers!
Another great article. I'm very impressed and I feel... ah.. Smarter!
first of all ipersonally thank u for making hubpages, it is a great site for the begineers to write articles and to understand how blogging works uare doing all the work for the hubbers, but one thing iwant to know that, as iam a starter in hubpages , ijoined around 4 months ago on hubpages and ihave made around 200 hubs, and my score is around 75 can i make money because i have dont have a website of my own, is it necessary to have a website or there are other ways to join google adnense program, and one more question , do photohubs earn equal amount of money as the written articles or not because iam making photohubs as well as wring articles on relevant topics u can see that, my email adress is satyamrastogi301@gmail.com and iam from india, plz reply and email me tosort out this confusion
@satyman12
Photo hubs can gain quite a bit of traffic, but they tend to earn much less than pages about products or other commercial topics. If earnings are what you are after, Id concentrate on a niche but commercial topic.
I understand that Google in India has it's own policies on approving adsense accounts. That's a better question for Google.
Just got my first hubs going and really enjoyed it. Thanks for the tips and advice in this one - I'm looking forward to doing more now :)
I'm hunting for useful information and this one is a good place to get quality info. Thanks.
Great hub, with the topic beautifully covered. Coming from one of the founders of hubpages, the advice certainly has its basis in facts.
Especially liked the breakdown into challenges and advantages.
Long term is the way to go especially when it comes to choosing the subject of articles, though personally I have yet to make too much headway on that front. Till then, freelancing continues to be my top earner!
Thankyou for the well constructed and detailed information you provided, great hub! Keep up the good work!
Great to hear. It will help me a lot to build my list.
nice hubs and very helpful tips
I am very very new to all this and love writing.I am at the learning center.Finding all this information at my finger tips is wonderful.Very informative. Can't wait to get started.
Thanks for all the advice.

Paul, i am one of the people who really wants to earn money online. I think it is really nice if you will stay at home then earn extra money using your own computer. Your three ways is helpful to me. Thanks!
I'm coming from the Learning Center, too, and appreciate your helpful advice. Thank you!
Very informative article thanks. I'm looking to pursue Adsense this year. It's not something I've really looked into before, but I've heard a lot about it and I guess it's always a good thing to diversify your online business.
It is an excellent hub. I love your work.
I thinks I prefer to choose affiliate marketing, because it truely give money for me. I am an adsense publisher before, but I don't know why my account was disabled. I try to get informations from forum, but the answers is not filled my problem.
Your hubs are really evergreen. Thanks for the pieces of advice here and there on Google Adsense and other affiliate programmes. Godwin.
Great Hub...Alot of different avenues to pursuit with internet marketing! Thanks
The temptation is to write about the latest fad but you are right to point people to the evergreen topics.
