Gift Ideas for a Seven Year Old
Turning seven is a pretty special birthday. As a father, I try and pick out a gift my daughter will love. Whether it's a Christmas gift idea or a birthday present, here are a few suggestions for gifts that a seven year old will love depending on their personality.
- A new bike. Seven is about the age where they will outgrow the bike they learned to ride on if they learned about 5 years old. If they are an averaged sized kid, get them a 20 inch bicycle. At seven, they are also skilled enough to use gears. Bikes with gears are more expensive than without, but if you live on a hill or want to go for long family rides, your seven year old will enjoy it.
- Take them to get their ears pierced. Everyone has different ideas on the appropriate age to let a child pierce their ears. I'm of the opinion that if my seven year old really wants her ears pierced, then it's fine. The key is that it has to be the seven year olds idea. Then, you can get her a pair of earrings as a gift.
- Clothes. Seven year olds grow quickly. Clothes are a practical gift that she's likely to enjoy.
- Magic Tricks. I was a bit surprised, but our daughter asked for magic tricks. She wanted a floating fairy trick. The trick makes it look like that you can control a fairy as it flies around.
- Books. Seven year olds are getting pretty close to reading chapter books. Get them a series of books written by Roald Dahl. They are funny and age appropriate, although, a poor reader will find them a little challenging. If that's the case, you can read them the books.
Here is a special note to Dads. When your getting a gift for a little girl or your daughter, it's a very good idea to ask her what she wants and to show her a few pictures of different items before you purchase something like a bike. Luckily, I showed her the picture of the BMX bike I was going to get her with the cool fenders and lighting stripes. She let me know that wasn't what she had in mind:)
I also like to take a look at a few unique gifts ideas for young girls. French lessons, Shakespear camp, dog sledding trip, and tea party with cookies we have found to be big hits with our seven year old. As I tell my wife, let's just throw out a few ideas to her and see if anything sticks out as a great gift.

Our granddaughter is now 7 and yes, books are at the top of the list! But this year's biggest thrill was a real live guinea pig! She also loves stuffed animals, fluffy tutus, and all kinds of dress-up clothes! I have not seen the R Dahl books, but she has been reading Junie B. Jones. Super gift ideas.

very nice hub, I was always unsure of what to get my younger sister. She asked me to buy her a pony, and i said hell no, here's a barbie doll house. lol :)
My 7yr old loves the Roald Dahl books. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid is also a huge deal to her and the rest of the 2nd graders!! Art supplies are another great idea. Paper,markers,paints,clay,fabric. My daughter and her friends spend hrs making clothes and gadgets for stuffed animals and dolls.

Those are all great ideas but my kid has passed reading. She's in a book club already..think a pup or hampster is next being that I think she's ready for a little more responsability.

I work in technology and probably expose my kids to some gadgets a bit too early, although our three year old can operate an ipod touch, the question is more about if a 7 year old can take care of it and avoid some of the dangers of the device.

What a coincidence, Paul! My niece is turning seven in about 3 weeks (I take it your daughter's birthday is coming up, or you're deciding on Christmas gift perhaps). She's probably going to want everything you listed here. I of course opted for the books, because she's a bookworm just like her uncle!
