Gift Ideas for a 5 year old girl - Presents they will love

I take a lot of pride in picking out gifts for our girls. Our middle daughter is turning five and I'm putting a list together of gift ideas that I think she will love. Turning five is pretty special in our house and it may be the biggest celebration we have. When I turned five and all of my brothers turned five, our parents took us to Disneyland. In my family, we are carrying on the tradition. So for the fifth birthday, we are taking our daughter to Disneyland for her present. Since this is the big birthday, we will also have a few gifts for her as well.

At five years old, our daughter has progressed in many ways. She can ride a bike, read basic words, and dress herself. Her personality is taking shape and we as parents can see areas of interest she has and our doing our best to support her. She has a particular eye for fashion, but also loves to sing and perform. So, the gift ideas I suggest are taking her personality in mind.

For the five year old that is a fashionista. Our daughter really appreciates a great outfit that goes well together from the sweater or jacket to the clip in her hair. It surprises me a bit at how talented she is at putting together her outfits. I think she would really enjoy a complete outfit. I may even take her shopping so she can pick everything out herself. I can picture her smiling right now.

While we want to be careful about putting emphasis on her personal appearance, there is no denying that she loves nail polish and lip gloss. An age appropriate makeup kit is an excellent idea for a five year old that loves playing with makeup.

While she love makeup, we encourage more playing dress up and at five she still loves princesses and getting dressed up.  A princess dress up set with shoes and earrings may bring a smile to their face.

First they loved singing songs from High School Musical, and now I hear my daughters singing Taylor Swift songs.  We love to encourage them to sing and often endulge them by letting them perform for us and our friends.  Our daughter would love a kids karaoke machine that they could plug their Ipod into and have it dub out the words so they can be the singer.  

It can be pretty hard to think of the perfect gift for a birthday, Christmas or other holiday, so some ideas can be helpful. Here are a few other things I think a five year old will love.

• Basic reading books like the Bob series
• Coloring supplies with glue and glitters
• Books you read to them - I loved reading my daughters at 5 "Where the Red Fern Grows."
• Bike. They may have outgrown their first bike and need something a little larger. A bike is a great thing to pick up used on craigslist. I found one that looks new for a great price.
• Silly Bandz. Not sure what it is about these things, but our girls love trading them.
• Sleeping bag with their name on it. At five, our daughters are doing their first sleepovers. So they love sleeping bags.
