How to Program a Homelink Garage Door Opener with Rolling Codes
How To Program HomeLink with Rolling Code Video
I figured out why my homelink system in my car won't work
I followed all the steps in my new used car that I purchased from a private seller to program the homelink system to open our garage doors.
First, I reset the homelink system in the car by holding the 1 and 3 garage door opener buttons until the status light flashed.
Next, In my car, I hit the button I wanted to program, it starts to flash slowly and then I pointed the garage door opener about ten inches from the sensor in the car. The sensor in my car is in the front a couple feet above the license plate. I held the button until the brake lights flashed three times. I thought, great, the lights flashed, I must be done. When I went to push the button, my garage door wouldn't open. Dang. I thought my system was broken.
It turns out, my garage door has rolling codes. Rolling codes are essentially a security code that is stored in memory on the remote device and the garage door opener. When a button is pushed on the remote control, it sends the security code and the command. If the codes match, the garage door opener will execute the command. So, I needed to do one more step after I programmed the homelink system in my garage.
To get it all to work, I parked my car just outside my garage door, I opened the plastic covering around the light and then I pressed the "Learn Now" button on my garage door opener. Than I had thirty seconds to press the garage door opener in my car. I held down the button and the light on my garage door opener blinked. I let go of the button in the car and then I pressed it again. This time my garage door open and closed. The homelink system in my car is now successfully programmed.
