How to Drive Traffic to a Forum - Your Guide

By

Want to drive traffic to a forum

Forums are online communities. Most forum sites are highly vertical and focused on a topic. There are a couple of things to keep in mind when starting a forum. First, it takes consistent effort to get them off the ground. Second, they're highly transient communities for the majority of users with a staple of a few passionate and frequent users.

How to drive traffic to a forum

  1. Start with knowledgable people. People that know the subject matter very well and have them seed the forum.
  2. Be patient. Communities grow over time. Just, consistently post new content.
  3. Link development. People need to know that your forum exists. Post links in your blog, and other appropriate places.
  4. Build more content.
  5. Submit to a few key directories.
  6. Recruit people to post.
  7. Post on a topic and then email people you know that will have commentary.
  8. Maintain the forums
  9. Reward people for posting

Hi Paul,

Thank you so much for the hub. It's more than I expected. Launching a forum on your blog is a brilliant idea!

I think it's better to start with a blog. Build a community of readers that can contribute through comments. Then, if it makes sense, add a forum.

Yes, but it is too late for him. I guess he needs to start a blog now and then add the forum to that blog when it is populated.

I have another question. Is there any way you can make a wordpress blog which looks more like a regular website?

Thanks for the info. I have launched a forum today for our website QatarVisitor.com and am feeling quite nervous about whether it will be successful or now. I have started a hub on what we are doing with the forum: http://hubpages.com/hub/Starting-a-Forum so I'd be really grateful if anyone has any hints or tips for me!

Thanks for this information - it really does take time to get all the knowledge necessary for running a successful Hub - I am a long way off - but trying very hard - I am trying to focus on good quality writing rather than posting Hubs for the sake of it.....thanks again....I wil get there

For how long should a person wait to get that high traffic? I have had this forum running for over an year now. Traffic is not getting boosted that much.

Hey nice advice my friend. It is a long slow process but with regular posting, Google will start to take you seriously and rank your posts. Its worth the effort.
