Import Address Book Code

What are some options for Importing Address Books

Many social networking sites have a feature that allows you to easily import your address book and send an email message to them. I've been getting a few questions about this a month, so here's a Hub on it.

If you don't want to write your own code to import address books for sites like Yahoo Mail, Gmail, Hotmail, and AOL then you have a few choices. You can search for free scripts, license code, or use Plaxo service.

We chose to license code from improsys.com. The good news is it is fairly inexpensive, and they are quick to send updates when things change. The bad news is the site needs to be updated everytime this happens. Fortunately, this is very infrequent.

Another option is to use Plaxo. I first noticed this service on YouTube. Plaxo is the service provider for YouTube. It's free and looks easy to implement.

Looking around for others solutions there seem to be a bunch of one off scripts that do this same function, but it you want to do all the major email providers, Improsys or Plaxo are good options.

Hi Paul

We another good one http://www.octazen.com which supports far more address books.

We're using it, and their support so far has been awesome.

What are the other guys around using?

Facebook and most others seem to use improsys for importing address books. That's what we use as well.
