Enjoying Coke From Mexico Is Different
At lunch today, we each ordered a cold bottle of coke. I love the coke bottle with the hourglass figure. It's so easy to hold and feels great in your hand on a hot day.
After one sip, I thought, hmmm this tastes different. Sometimes my taster is off, but I thought, it seems sweeter than I remember.
Hecho en Mexico and Refresco, I thought could Coke from Mexico be different than the same Coca~Cola we enjoy in the USA?
It turns out Coca Cola from Mexico is made with sugar cane sweetner and tastes sweeter. USA bottlers of coke switched from cane sugar in the 1980's as costs were rising and now use corn syrup.
Mexican Coke it turns out is somewhat of a specialty item. It is infrequently available and usually found in small stores or Mexican grocery stores. Our Mexican bottled Coke had a special sticker on it with the ingredients. The 12 once 355 ml bottle of Coca Cola listed ingredients where:
- Carbonated water
- Sugar
- Carmel color
- Phosphoric
- Acid
- Natural Flavors
- Caffeine
I'm not trippin, the label actually listed phosphoric and acid separately.
I really enjoyed my bottle of Mexican Coke it reminded me of....Pepsi.
American or Mexican, Which is better?
Do prefer coke made with real sugar or corn syrup?
See results without votingI think the key is the real sugar. Can't beat the real thing!
Did you know Mexico and European countries have laws against high fructose corn syrup? It's true. That's why their coke tastes better and is actually better for you.
Have a Coke and smile.
You can now get bottles of Mexican Coke at Costco. Some Costcos carry different items, but they have had the last few times in the bay area.
I am married to a mexican, and theres no doubt about it, when we go to a mexican resturaunt to eat, the coke there is much much better! And what can beat a glass bottle??
For 2 years I haven't drank a soda. Until I heard about sugar cane sodas, I thought maybe I could try one and have more of that instead of corn syrup or aspertame. hopefully since sugar cane acts more like an energy, it wont make me fat like corn syrup would since i exercise.
lol. this gave me a giggle. I have read recently that real sugar is making a come back since high fructose corn syrup is getting a bad rap. I never drink soda, so I don't know the difference in taste.
They sell it at Walmart...not so hard to find..it is in the Mexican Food Isle for Pete's sake!! You no longer have to make a run for the border!
Big difference when made with real sugar. Now I also see Dr. Pepper is doing the same thing but in cans and not from Mexico. I would like to see the bottled Coke done here in the U.S.A. I live in Arizona and as we all know we are having problems with the illegal crossing our borders. Not to say they are all Mexicans but just the same the trouble is there.
I found Pepsi now has a version available in the USA made with real sugar as well.
