Personal Agents

The Problem: It's too hard to fully represent yourself

I think it's true that everyone needs a little help. Whether it's finding the right business partner, a wife or husband, or just about anything. Today, some of us use agents to buy or sell a house, get a loan, and if you're a professional athlete or actor, you may have an agent as well. Most of us have a few agents we don't really think of like agents. For example, the friend that's arranging dates for you or the person that recommends you for a job are your personal agents. The problem is we don't have enough agents. I need more agents, HubPages needs more agents, and even my friend Jeremy is looking for agents to find him a wife.

So, how can I get more agents?

The Product: The Marketplace for Personal Agents

The idea is to build a personal network of agents. The product would work like a social networking site meets personal representation. I as a user invite my close friends to become my personal agent for something like finding a wife or I could ask specific agents in the marketplace to represent me. I put the request for representation out to my network of agents with the requirements. For example, a message is posted like a bulletin to all my agents with the request of what I'm looking my representation to do. The agents can discuss the task in an open forum and then go out and represent me.

The Business Model: Bounties, Fees, Commissions

The business model has a few ways to make revenues. People can pay their agents for the results. For example, if I find Jeremy a wife, he pays me a trip to Hawaii (not stowed away in his suitcase on his honeymoon). Also, models like if he finds me a house (assuming he's licensed to do this) he gets a commission, or I say I'll represent you, but it will cost you $100 bucks.

I like the concept. Most people have skills and contacts that don't get effectively used because they aren't marketed. Seeing an opportunity to help out, and make something on a positive result would be rewarding at several levels. The emphasis has to be on "personal". The trust factor would have to be very high to encourage people to work on behalf of a person unknown to you on a contingency basis.

Jack, I would certainly agree that trust is very important in an agent relationship.
