The Best Baby Swing that Plugin (plug in), Play Music, and Vibrating

Which Baby Swing is Right for You?

Towards the later stages of pregnancy, my wife feels better if we are well prepared for after the birth to care for our infant. One of the things she wanted setup and ready to use for the infant is a baby swinger. So I started to poke around to find the best baby swing and discovered that there are so many options that it takes careful consideration to find the best baby swing.

1. How much space do you have for a baby swing? There's a huge difference in the amount of space and the type of base that each swing has. If you have one place for the swing, make sure there's enough space for the swing as well as enough room for the swing in motion. You don't want your baby hitting the wall.

2. Do you need a travel baby swing? Going over to a friends house for dinner, or having the parents watch the kids? It's nice to be able to bring the things that sooth a baby. You may want to consider a baby swing that is designed for travel.

3. Will you store your baby swing? If you plan to tuck your baby swing in the closet when your baby isn't using it, then how easily it folds up will be important. It will also be important how easy it is to set it back up. You don't want something that requires dismantling or a bunch of extra parts.

4. Do you want your baby swing to play music? Yes, there are baby swings that play music. You can plug-in your mp3 player and kick off your babys favorite play-list. This may seem like a little much, but there are infant swings with built-in speakers, and that have their own pre-programmed tunes or the ability to hook up your ipod to let your baby rock out to its favorite tunes.

5. Will you need a baby swing with adjustable speeds? It turns out that not all babies are soothed with the same speed. So there is lots of choice here. High end baby swing models have more than six speeds. Test away to find the one that your baby loves.

6. What type of rocking motion would you like for your swing? When I was a kid, I remember my mother with a baby swing that had a crank and it just went back and forth with a clicking sound. Pretty much like the motion of a regular swing. Baby swings motion have advanced! There are now swings that model the natural motion of rocking your baby in your arms. They move side to side, and have settings for long gentle sways or shorter motions. Again. Experiment to find what your baby likes.

7. What types of attachments? There are all sorts of things to hook up to a baby swing. Our first swing had little monkeys that were attached to a mobile. So our little baby could watch these six little monkeys sway back and forth as we hoped for her to fall asleep.

8. Battery powered or plugin? If you use your baby swing as much as we used ours, you may want to have a swing that you can plugin. It's pretty painful to rock a baby swing by hand when you're out of batteries and the baby is demanding to be in their swing.

9. Vibrating Motion? As if rocking isn't enough. You may want a vibrating baby swing. These give an extra massage as your baby rocks away.

10. Reclining baby swings? If you have newborn baby you will need a baby swing that reclines. Newborns are not strong enough to sit up on their own. Newborn baby swings or infant baby swings have some limitations. Your baby may out-grow it quickly. I had to modify our first baby swing so it would fully recline since I purchased it before I knew this piece of information.

11. Will you need a baby swing for a toddler. If you plan to place a toddler, then the baby swing weight limit will be important. You'll want to make sure that the swing supports the weight of your child safely. If the baby is too big for the swing, the swing can do all sorts of strange things. As our last baby grew, the swing would move forward inch by inch.

12. How much noise will the baby swing make. The old wind-up swings made a lot of noise. Now, there are swings that are designed to be quiet. This is going to sound really terrible, but I couldn't hear the TV over our first swing. So if you want the baby to swing in the room while you're watching the game, then try and find a quiet baby swing.

13. Bouncing Baby Swings. I just saw one of these for the first time. These are baby swings that are two in one baby bouncers. So, not only do you get a full featured baby swing, but it also doubles as a bouncer. I didn't look too much into this, but I like the idea. This way, you may never have to take your child out of the swing - Just kidding. OK, my joke goes on. Just think. You can swing your baby to sleep. Have it wake up and put it in bounce mode for a little exercise and then attach a tray to feed it. Then when you need to go to the store, just unclick it and it's a car seat:) I'm pretty sure the high chair bouncing swing car seat is right around the corner.

14. Are you expecting twins? You may need a tandem swinger that will support more than one baby. This can be nice if you have a visiting parent with another infant as well.

15. Baby swing with a video baby monitor. You might need to hook up a wifi baby monitor to the swing so you can check in and see the baby swinging in its chair while you are outside or in another room.

16.  Some people make the trade off between a baby swing or a baby gate.  The reason is they are looking for a way to keep the baby contained while they do an activity.  A baby swing with good straps keeps the baby in the chair and hopefully the soothing swinging motion keeps them happy.  The baby gate keeps them confined to a room or from a dangerous stairway.

Should I Get a Cheap Baby Swing?

I think there are enough swings for all sorts of budgets and you don't have to spend a lot of money. Just between us, your baby won't know if you borrowed it from a friend or bought a used baby swing. Our first baby swing was a Graco. It had a few settings and lasted for two of our babies and through two of our friends. After the fourth baby, it was totally shot. I had hoped to borrow one from my brother, but he's having a baby a week after us.

The Baby Swing My Wife Wants

My wife wants the Graco Sweetpeace baby swing. By all my research it sounds like people love it. It has four seating positions, supports babys up to 25 lbs. It's made of natural colors so it doesn't stand out all that much. It also has a low frequency sound. I hope this means that it isn't very noisy. It is a little pricey at over a $160. I have to say that our last swing was worth every penny. I can't tell you how many times it soothed our first baby when nothing else would do.

Preparing the Swinger Before the Birth

After the birth of the baby, make way for all learning that you will do to care for the infant. Just be prepared, the end of pregnancy and afterbirth process will take some adjustments. While you may do a little dance for joy, you'll soon get down to business on how to sooth a crying baby. Sometimes the pacifier just won't work and the last thing you'll want to be doing is assemblying a baby swing.

Finding a good routine can help a new mother. For example, postnatal a new nursing mother wil learn to breastfeed her newborn baby. She'll start by getting the baby to latch on to the nipple. This can be frustrating to the newborn as well as the mother. But once they have it down, and the baby is breastfed, then you can place your baby in the swinger to keep it content. The routine becomes play, breastfeed, swing, and nap.

As soon as that high chair bouncing swing car seat changes diapers, it's perfect. I checked out the link to the Graco Sweetpeace baby swing and found the demo video hilarious. The woman in it simply cracked me up.

That's funny. We both laughed at the video.

Perhaps the seat could have a hole to toilet. No need for diapers. Even better!

Some sort of bidet attachment: perfect!

Wow - hole to toilet with bidet attachment - perfect, indeed! Great research, Paul. Sure wish they had these things when I was in young mama mode, but I'll remember your hub when grandmother time comes around and for my young friends. Your wife is blessed to have you for her husband!

Great write-up! I think another important thing to remember is to check for recalls on the swings and baby products you use.

Stacie that video is too funny. Yeah you are right Michelle, It is always a good Idea to check on the owners website for recalls or issues with products. Some baby swings have a habit of not sitting in the recline position you put them in, which can be annoying. good write up by the way
