Grilled Pork Tenderloin

Grilling pork tenderloin is my specialty. Follow these easy steps and you'll have some of the most succulent pork you've ever tasted!

Rinse Pork Tenderloin after Brine

Start with a brined pork tenderloin

Pork tenderloin is a lean piece of white meat that is already tender, but for extra juicy and extra tender brine the pork first. Once the pork is removed from the brine solution, rinse it under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

Season the pork

Seasoning a Pork Tenderloin for Grilling

To season pork tenderloin you'll need a rub that has salt and pepper in it for the most basic rubs. Here are a few of my favorite simple rubs.

Pork Tenderloin Rub

  • Garlic salt
  • Pepper
  • Rosemary

Substitute a lemon pepper with salt for an all in one seasoning.

Grilling the Tenderloin

Preheat the grill to 375 degrees. Spray Pam on the grill before putting the pork down. This will prevent the meat from sticking.

The key to great grill marks

  • Lay the pork across the grill. Let it sear for 3 to 4 minutes and then rotate one third turn. Turn three times until there are ring marks around the tenderloin.
  • Lay the pork horizontally to the grill and now grill the pork 3 to 4 minutes for each one third turn.

Saucing and Internal Temperature of Pork

After the grill marks have been completed, the pork is ready for saucing. The internal temperature at this point should be about 130 to 135 degrees.

Put on the bbq sauce. Preferably homemade and continue to let the pork cook. Adding sauce near the end of the grilling will prevent most of the flare ups since bbq sauce has a high sugar content and can burn.

When the pork tenderloin reaches 145 degrees on an instant read thermometer, pull it from the grill. To take the temperature properly, insert the thermometer from one end and make sure the probe stays in the middle. Insert it slowly until the probe reaches the center. The readings will be higher near the ends, but we want the true center temperature of the meat to decide when to pull it from the grill.

Slicing and Serving Pork Tenderloin

Once the tenderloin has been removed from the grill, let it set for 10 minutes. The pork will continue to cook and it will also reabsorb the juices from brining.

Slice the pork into 1/2 inch medallions and serve hot.

What to serve with pork tenderloin

  • Apple sauce
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Salad with savory dressing or tomato and cucumber salad with salt and pepper

Wine to serve with pork tenderloin

  • Pinot Noir
  • Chardonnay

Dessert

  • Premium vanilla ice cream with shot of espresso
  • Apple or Pumpkin pie
